Day Eight – No! Not Shopping!!

June 28, 2016 –
Up, breakfast, and on the road to Freeport, ‘cause everyone says you need to shop there.  We’re not, either one of us, shoppers, especially not name brands like Calvin Klein and Loft and Coach, so we figure an hour or two of looking at the consumer museums and we’ll have lots of time to get ready to leave tomorrow morning for Bar Harbor.

We drive down Main Street and realize that the parking garages are free!  That’s a pretty good start so we pull in and begin to investigate this outlet wonderland.  Early on we stop into a Bass store – a first for me.  I’m thinking that maybe a leather purse would make an excellent camera bag; but Marilyn is looking at the luggage.  Oh, look at that!  One of those cool bags with the four wheels!  It’s small enough to be a carry on and has lots of pockets and is way cheaper than anything I’ve seen.  We both like it, although it’s not my favorite color.  And it only comes in that one.  Marilyn really likes it, too, and she’s the one that was looking, so I’m content to let her have it.  The cute little clerk calls their other store and they have only one, too!  Looks like we can each get one!

Every name brand you've ever heard of, I think!

Down the street there is the most wonderful, eclectic collection of artisans’ work.  This is a very dangerous stop and I think we probably spend an hour or more oohing and aahing.  By the time we’re through we have to ask them to hold onto our purchases, so we don't have to carry them!

There are a few more stops, including a jewelry store that makes their own gold and silver charms.  Marilyn finds a silver one of Pemaquid Light and it even has the name of the light engraved on the back!  We stop at town hall and they have the coolest floor!  The edges are tiles with distressed wood in the center of the floor!  Oh, and there’s a chocolate store!

On to the other Bass store and I get my bag and take it to the car;  then back to the first one to pick up Marilyn’s so she can fill it with clothes for her grandkids at the Gymboree, where it is not only an outlet but everything is marked down even further!

We’ve done so much damage!  And it’s five o’clock!  Time to head for dinner.  Let’s go back and try the Frontier Café again.  This time it’s open and we’re really hungry! (We split a chunk of rocky road fudge from the chocolate store – that was lunch!)

I think my phone's camera is just as good as my big one!

Before dinner I have a Blueberry Hill (lemon vodka, blueberry ginger shrub, Dolin Blanc vermouth, up, with a lemon twist) and Marilyn has a Vacationland (cantaloupe cayenne rum, apricot vodka, DiSaronno, Royal Rose cardamom clove syrup, pineapple juice, passion fruit puree, rocks, dark rum float, and a lime wedge)!

Lots of pretty things to look at while we wait for dinner!

View out the window

There are many gluten-free choices but we both wind up getting the “Mediterranean Market Place”, which consists of falafels, feta, cucumbers, tomatoes, artichoke hearts, tzatziki sauce, hummus, baba ghanoush, and naan.  I substitute GF bread.  Really yum!!

It didn't look like a ton of food;  but it WAS!

Tummies stuffed to the brim we go home and bring in our new bags and other purchases to see what we can do about packing!  I’m thinking I’ll be leaving my old bag somewhere in Maine if I’m right about everything fitting in the new one.  It’s a tad smaller but not much.  Of course I did buy one or two things, so…hmmm.

It’s a miracle!  I think everything will fit!  Marilyn will be bringing both her bags home;  but she bought CLOTHES and TOYS for her grandkids!  I may ask her to take two little jars for me; but only because they’re too big for the stupid “three-ounce rule”!  We spend the rest of the evening planning our trip tomorrow to see three more lighthouses and a couple of quaint Maine towns before arriving in Bar Harbor.  Onward and Upward!!
